Quickstart Guide
Get up and running with More MCP in less than five minutes. Connect your first AI client and test basic operations.
What You Will Accomplish
In this quickstart, you will generate an authentication key, verify server connectivity, and execute your first prompt through an AI client in under five minutes.
1. Generate an API Key
While More MCP supports interactive OAuth 2.0 with PKCE, generating a static API key is the fastest way to get started:
- Open your WordPress admin dashboard.
- Go to More MCP -> Settings -> Keys.
- Click Generate New Key.
- Give your key a descriptive label (for example,
MacBook Claude Code). - Copy the generated key immediately:
MMCP-Key: YOUR_API_KEY
Store this key securely. More MCP hashes keys in the database and will not display the plain secret again.
2. Locate Your Endpoint
Your server endpoint is generated automatically based on your WordPress site URL:
https://yourdomain.com/wp-json/more-mcp/v1/mcp
Test that the endpoint responds by running a quick probe from your terminal:
curl -I https://yourdomain.com/wp-json/more-mcp/v1/mcp
A healthy server returns an HTTP response code of 200 or 401 Unauthorized (indicating the endpoint exists and requests authentication).
3. Configure Your First Client
For Claude Desktop, open your configuration file (claude_desktop_config.json) and add the server definition under mcpServers:
{
"mcpServers": {
"wordpress": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y",
"@modelcontextprotocol/server-fetch",
"https://yourdomain.com/wp-json/more-mcp/v1/mcp"
],
"env": {
"HTTP_AUTHORIZATION": "Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
}
}
}
}
Restart Claude Desktop to apply the configuration.
4. Run Your First Prompt
Open a new conversation in Claude Desktop or your preferred MCP client. You should see the hammer or tool icon indicating that WordPress tools are available.
Try running this prompt:
List the latest 5 published blog posts on my WordPress site and show their titles and author names.
Your AI client will execute the wp_posts_list tool, query your database natively, and format the response in clean text.
