Installation Guide for More MCP
How to download, install, and activate the More MCP plugin on your WordPress site from GitHub releases.
Overview
More MCP connects your WordPress site directly to AI clients like Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, and custom agent workflows using the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
Because More MCP is open source and currently distributed via GitHub, you install it as a standard WordPress plugin zip file.
Requirements
Before installing More MCP, ensure your environment meets these minimum specifications:
- WordPress: 6.0 or higher (WordPress 6.9+ recommended for native Abilities API support)
- PHP: 7.4, 8.0, 8.1, 8.2, or 8.3
- HTTPS: Valid SSL certificate required for REST API security and OAuth 2.0 PKCE
- Permalinks: Pretty permalinks enabled (anything other than Plain in Settings -> Permalinks)
Step 1: Download the Release Archive
Download the latest pre-packaged release zip directly from GitHub:
- Visit the More MCP Releases page on GitHub.
- Download
more-mcp.zipfrom the latest release assets.
Do not download the raw GitHub source branch archive (Source code zip), as it contains developer tests and build scripts not required on production sites.
Step 2: Upload to WordPress
- Log in to your WordPress administrative dashboard (
/wp-admin). - Navigate to Plugins -> Add New Plugin.
- Click the Upload Plugin button at the top of the page.
- Choose the downloaded
more-mcp.zipfile and click Install Now. - Once installation finishes, click Activate Plugin.
Step 3: Verify Activation
After activation, locate the new More MCP item in the main administrative sidebar.
Navigate to More MCP -> Settings to inspect your endpoint URL:
https://yourdomain.com/wp-json/more-mcp/v1/mcp
If your endpoint displays correctly and the status pill reads Ready, the MCP server is initialized and ready to accept client connections.
